‘.’ or ‘#

# is for ID

You use ‘#somename’ when its an <div id=”somename”

ID’s can be useful to suround an area so that you can use this in the stylesheet:

#navlnks .page_item, #navlnks .page_item a { 

. is for Class

You use ‘.some_name’ when its <div class=”some_name”
